Expert assessment of biogas production plant installation

Project Description
Conducting a technical assessment and failure analysis of the piping system at a biogas production plant. The study focuses on the structural and mechanical evaluation of the pipelines connected to the process tanks, analyzing anomalous behavior, deformations, or failures resulting from mechanical stresses and unwanted movements at connection points.
Industrial Sector
Renewable energy and waste treatment (biogas / renewable gas sector).
Technological Challenge
The primary technical challenge was diagnosing the source of the deformations and the unanticipated bending moments in the piping. As the mechanical analysis demonstrated, the line’s own weight—combined with a lack of adequate supports or fixed anchor points—created leverage arms that induced critical bending moments at the flanges and tank connections. This resulted in backward displacement of the ends and a risk of excessive stress or fatigue failure at the joints and critical sections.
Development
The work carried out by our company has focused entirely on technical consultancy and engineering expert analysis (the “paper phase” and diagnostics). We produced diagrams of mechanical stresses and loads, determined the acting forces (weights, distances, and bending moments), and prepared an expert report identifying the causes of the original assembly’s failure, while proposing options for structural correction and the redesign of the support systems.
Result
The technical expert report made it possible to pinpoint the exact origin of the installation’s mechanical problems, providing the client with the engineering solutions needed to redesign the pipe supports, eliminate residual bending moments, and ensure the long-term safety and operability of the biogas plant.
